Adult Workshop
For the adult workshop, Carlos presents the challenges faced by parents, schools, communities and law enforcement who deal with juvenile gangs and drug dealers. Participants will explore the identification and profile of a gang member, as well as why teens join them. Carlos discusses the historical backgrounds of how gangs started in the United States: why, the origins and/or culture of the different types of gangs, and their spread through the United States.
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW on Gangs (and why teens think they’re cool)
- Historical background of how gangs started in the U. S.
- The why and how of white hate supremacist gangs and how they effectively recruit through the media.
- Background of Black or Afro American American Gangs and their transformation from Black Panthers to Vice Lords to Crips, Bloods and Guerilla Family
- History of Hispanic Gangs which include the Mara Salvatrucha, Mexican Mafia, Nuestra Familia (Nortenos/Surenos), Latin Kings, Zetas, Netas, etc. The Mindset of hispanic gangbangers (as with others) who see themselves as soldiers or protectors of their “hood”.
- Asian gangs including Triads and Tongs. The Asian community is an extremely closed mouth community and even more so about its criminal element.
- Gang member characteristics may be defined into 3 categories: Hardcore, Associates and Peripheral members.
OBJECTIVES: OF GANG PRESENTATION
- Identify the characteristics of a gang.

- Understand the importance of STATUS among gang-bangers and criminals.

- Recognize and read hand signing/flashing/throwing/stacking
- Understand the marketing of the gang problem (videos, websites, music, etc).

- Differentiate, categorize, and separate gangsters, hate groups, etc.

OVERVIEW OF DRUG WORKSHOP:
The adult workshops focus on substance abuse and the power of the financial incentive in the drug world. Drug and gang marketing are discussed as is the power of the media, graffiti, weapons, and different types paraphernalia, explosives and their easy access to youth.
The adult workshops may be presented in 2-8 hours, depending on the amount and detail of material you want presented. The workshop may emphasize a particular area based on the audience. The objective of the training is to provide participants an awareness of the illegal drug and criminal gangs. Carlos brings with him a number of trunks full of paraphernalia.
