2005 Johnny Sides Rookie of the Year Award

Police Officer Carlos D. Cruz, #8310, is the 2005 Johnny Sides Rookie of the Year. Officer Cruz joined the Dallas Police Department on September 13, 2002, and is currently assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division. Officer Cruz has answered approximately 2,750 calls for service, made 52 felony-in-the-act arrests, and cleared 138 offenses. He has earned a Life Saving Award, Marksmanship Award and a LETS Instructor Bar. As a former Marine and retired Coast Guardsman, Officer Cruz worked as a Drug and Gang Specialist and an Intelligence analyst. He holds a Basic and Advanced Gang Recognition and Indentification Certificate from the National Interagency Counter Drug Institute. He has made numerous speaking engagements to various groups, including schools, churches, and Rotarty Clubs, educationg others about drug abuse and gangs. Officer Cruz is the recipient of four supervisory commendations and continues to recieve positive feedback from the community in which he works.
Johnny Sides Rookie of the Year is selected from nominations made by supervisors in the department. Selection is based on an employee’s overall performance for the year in such areas as work record, commendations, awards recieved and civic activities. The Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce selects the Rookie of the Year from three nominations presented by the Meritorious Conduct Board.Wrestling buy
